Audiology Follow up

We had a follow up appointment with Audiology today.  We met with them a few months ago in October.  We didn’t do much in the way of the test because Ozzie was recovering from a cold and had fluid in his ears.  And so we rescheduled for 6 weeks, but Ozzie was sick so we had to rebook – bringing us to January.

We got into the testing room and again, Ozzie had fluid in his ears.

We will go back in two weeks to try again.

The thing is, our tech said, that when there’s fluid present you need to test a few times just to be sure because things like colds and teething can have an effect on the amount of fluid present.

However, she said that it’s likely that he will need tubes – even if it’s only because of the Moebius.  Moebius effects swallowing and that will effect his ability to clear out his Eustachian tubes.  Think of when your ears need to pop, and how you clear that. It’s possible that Ozzie may not be able to do that properly.  It’s too soon to tell.

So, in two weeks we go back and meet with the tech and with the ENT (Ear Nose Throat) doctor, Dr. Frank.

here’s hoping they find what they need.  She said that his balance could be effected if he had middle ear trouble.  Maybe this will help Ozzie stabilize a bit more when sitting, and maybe he’ll be able to figure out standing?  Hard to say.

  1. My mom goes to Dr. Frank for her ears! He’s great, she says. I hope they get his ears draining and help him however they might.

  2. Doesn’t it just figure that he would have the fluid in his ears on the day of the appointment. Murphy’s law. Well, hoping for a better appointment in a couple of weeks. If the tubes will help Ozzie avoid the discomfort of not being able to clear his ears then I hope it can be done soon so he can heal in time for summer fun in 2012.
